Squeeze Play
A tactical move when a batter bunts to give a chance to the runner from the third base to score. The main idea behind this move is that makes the defence's only move to make an out on the first base.
There are two types:
- Safety Squeeze - A runner on the third base awaits to see how the bunt is the executed and based on that he decides whether he will run or not.
- Suicide Squeeze - A runner runs as soon as the pitcher starts his motion. It's a very risky move.
The squeeze play is usually played in later innings or if the team desperately needs a run. The only way that a defending team can counter this play is that a pitcher throws high balls because it's hard to bunt to the ground.
